Okay, guys. You wanna know something? Having a baby is great for a million reasons... but one of the most fun things is that you get to play dress up with them everyday (and often multiple times a day thanks to spit up, baby boy pee that shoots out like a fountain, and poop-splosions). Anyway, it's way fun to be able to dress up your own little baby and put them in whatever you dang well please.
When G came home from the hospital, I quickly realized he was much smaller than I had imagined him being
and unfortunately, he didn't fit (and still doesn't) into a majority of the incredibly extensive closet of clothes I have for him. Sad face!
But, that's okay! It has given me the excuse to go shopping a couple more times + to take on projects like this one. :) Baby leggings are incredibly simple and quick to make and I'm pretty positive this kid will end up having leggings in every pattern and color known to man. I have a serious issue.
Also, another fun fact... I'm pretty tied to the house these days and so I haven't been fabric shopping in quite a while. I have to work with what I've got at home! So, all of these leggings were made from old t-shirts. :) Woo!
So go dig out a couple tshirts you never wear (or grab some of your husband's, that's what I did!) and spend an hour making some cute little pants for your tiny human.

- 1/2 yard knit fabric (I've used a couple different kinds with varying degrees of stretch... just what you prefer)
- OR, an old t-shirt :)
- matching thread
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Before beginning, use another pair of baby pants, sweats, or leggings to help you cut out your pattern pieces. Fold them in half and lay on top of your fabric, (with fabric folded at front of pant fold). Also, cut a waistband piece. My piece was about 4" wide (2" folded) and 13" long (typically, measure around the top of your pants and subtract about an inch to get the correct waist band length.
**For all of my seams on this project, I used a very small zig zag stitch to preserve stretch in the fabric**

1. Take your two pant pattern pieces and unfold them. Hem the bottom of these pieces (I did just a single fold since it was a knit fabric I knew wouldn't fray).
2. Lay the two pant pieces on top of each other, right sides together. Pin. Sew along two top slopes (sew above picture for reference).
3. Unfold pants. Seams you just sewed are now the front and pant middle seams of the pant. Now pin the inseam of the crotch and inner leg areas. Sew.
4. Take your waistband piece and fold it in half length ways, with right sides together. Sew short edges together to create a loop. Turn right-side-out and fold band in half height ways. (Waistband will go from 4" to 2", folded).
5. Pin open side (not folded side) of waistband to top of pants. Start pinning the front and back, then on side seams, then pins in between as needed. Sew.
6. Turn waistband up and away from pant. Iron, and done!

ReplyDeleteyou don’t. Her direction say to use another pair of baby leggings, trace, cut and then cut a waistband. It’s all in her write up
